Each Child Care Resource & Referral Agency has a local consultant team. The consultant team offers child care providers free services to improve the quality of care. To find your local consultant team, first find your local Child Care Resource & Referral Agency.  The consultant team consists of:

  • Child Care Nurse Consultant
  • Infant Toddler Child Care Specialist
  • Mental Health Consultant
  • Quality Rating System Specialist

Child Care Nurse Consultants (CCNC)

  • Provides health and safety technical assistance and training to child care providers
  • Links children, families and/or child care providers with local health departments, primary health care centers and other health/social service providers as needed
  • Work in cooperation with and refers providers to other consultants, as necessary

Infant Toddler Child Care Specialists (ITCCS)

  • Offer training, consultation and technical assistance services to child care providers
  • Assists child care providers with developing and implementing quality improvement plans
  • Provide trainings specific for infants/toddlers
  • Work with community partners, e.g. businesses and schools, to increase awareness of the importance of brain development and the impact that high quality child care has on the developing child

Mental Health Consultants (MHC)

  • Offers consultation services, technical assistance and trainings to child care providers on topics such as, but not limited to, behavioral issues, violence/trauma, abuse/neglect, etc.
  • Conducts site visits to child care programs
  • Provides referrals to outside agencies in the social and mental health areas based on individual needs of the children and/or families

Quality Rating System (QRS) Specialists

  • Answers general questions and helps guide providers through the QRS process
  • Offers technical assistance and consultation
  • Provide guidance in understanding and using assessment tools (Environment Rating Scales (ERS), Program Administration Scale (PAS), and Business Administration Scale (BAS), as well as national accreditation
  • For licensed programs, provides on-site help with program improvement planning
